President & CEO of AAAM, Dr. Vedet Coleman-Robinson joined Rev. Al Sharpton live on MSNBC's PoliticsNation to have vital discussion about the role of African American museums, the shifts in federal funding, and how the public can provide support to these institutions of history and culture amidst erasure and oppression. The goal at this time is about preservation, access, and the power of the stories we tell and upholding the institutions upon which they reside.
Dr. Vedet Coleman-Robinson, being acknowledged and awarded for her decades long work in the cultural field, was presented with the HueArts Advocates Award by Museum Hue and Stephanie Johnson-Cunningham during the Museum Hue 10th Anniversary Symposium & Celebration. Through hope, tenacity, dedication, determination, and courage she alongside the AAAM have been able to prevail and strive for greatness.
Dr. Vedet Coleman-Robinson celebrated this historic moment for the Anacostia neighborhood of D.C. and for the greater culture of D.C. history. During the speech she discussed the significance of the museum alongside landmarks, such as the Frederick Douglass Home and the Anacostia Community Museum, remembering legends, of the likes of John Kinard, founder of ACM and founding member of AAAM, as well as Chuck Brown and Mayor Marion Barry for their contributions to Go-Go and D.C. culture.
